Your hand stays on a door handle while opening and closing a door in your house.A young designer invented a door handle that remains in your hand when you open and close a door.
Claus Hencken an industrial designer from Krefeld, Germany who worked in Colani's team for a few years, thought about opening and closing doors in an easier manner than usual. We all know about opening a door and changing from one door handle to the one opposite it. It means touching one door handle, releasing it again and touching the other one and we all know about doors that slam shut inadvertently.
Claus Hencken did not want to waste time and invented a solution which was introduced into the market at 2007 "Bau" in Munich, Germany and the new door has a turning lock as well. After visitors at "Bau" were amazed about the new concept, everybody asked themselves why nobody had invented this new idea before. The mechanism of the new door is it's reversible handle and lock: One turns the handle into the open space without releasing it and without turning around oneself. There is only one fluid movement that is practical and natural. Unnatural movements belong to the past.
Claus Hencken had to find competent partners to produce his innovative concept and found lock manufacturer WSS from Heiligenhaus and door manufacturer KTM from Bocholt, Germany. At careful calculation the new doors will cost 20 to 30% more than a normal door, but the perfect combination of design and practical use has arrived. And it is a concept with a lot of fun.
Thanks to Claus Hencken's idea everyone will love opening doors and closing them. The two companies enabled Claus Hencken to realize his dream: a minimum of movements to open and close a door. Claus Hencken delivered a perfect and amazing solution - perfect handling
